Quito and Sasha Lodge in the Amazon

This is late getting posted due to limited internet.

Traveled from Quito to the Sasha Lodge in the Amazon today following a day exploring the historic area of Quito, the political capital of Ecuador, elevation about 8,000 ft.  Quito was conquered by the Aztecs and 30 years later the Spanish came and took over, the majority of people in the region died,  most from disease others fighting the Spanish. Simon Boliviar booted the Spanish from South America starting in Ecuador. Anyway, Quito has a large colonial area with churches and other public buildings. Quito was the first city named a UNESCO site.

In Quito we stayed at a spa with many thermal pools to soak in, we opted for some steam room time and massage, felt great after a day touring.

This square was the first in Quito, the grid represents a map of the city, important buildings are inlaid bronze panels.
Basilica, a big church, note the gargoyles are native wildlife, lizards, turtles, jaguars, etc.
Photos are unfortunately not in order, all due to operator error.

From Sasha Lodge in the Amazon rainforest, visited an indigenous tribe who cooked some typical foods. The small round ones are piranha.

Grubs are a local treat, grilled or eated live, I had a cooked one, not unpleasant at all.
Native women who demonstrated cooking , she’s 21 and has 3 kids.
Cooking over open fire, green limbs are used as a grate. Packets are grated hearts of palm and fish, like a tamale.
Typical home construction.
