Ouito

Returned to Quito from the Amazon, long trip but nice to be in a nice hotel out of the bugs and humidity. Stopped at The Center of The World, a spot where the North and Southern hemispheres meet, Monday was a National holiday, the start of Carnival and lots of special activities, dancing teams in colorful costumes and lots of foam spraying- people buy cans of foam and spray each other,  there was also a foam cannon shooting a huge stream into the crowd. They were pretty good about avoiding those not actively participating, like us.

On Tuesday after a nice buffet breakfast, we toured a rose farm, Ecuador is the number one exporter of roses most of which go to the US. In the area around the farm there are sellers offering roses at 75 to 100 for $1.00  - there is no way to bring back roses as an individual. Later we visited a market where crafts and textile goods were available.
