Siem Reap - Ta Prohm temple

Another temple in Siem Reap is Ta Prohm best known as a site used in Laura Croft Tomb Raider with Anglelina Jolie. Building started in 1138 by a local king as a gift to his family, it was abandoned in the 1500’s and was overcome with jungle, much later it was cleared of 80% of growth as it is now.

Originally Hindu like others of the age when built, later Buddhism took over.

Trees sprouted on top of the roof.

Much detail is lost but in protected areas you can see a glimpse of what it was.

Jumbo lily pads on the grounds of the hotel - these are up to 8 feet across.

Tree roots caused much to collapse, such as walls but in some cases the trees held structures together.

Monks go site seeing too.

There were many piles of stone pieces that were once structures. An Indian government agency was there working on reassembling some and preservation of what remains.
